Giles Lytton Strachey (March 1880 – 21 January 1932) was a British writer and critic. He was a founding member of the Bloomsbury Group and author of Eminent Victorians, he is best known for establishing a new form of biography in which psychological insight and sympathy are combined with irreverence and wit. His biography Queen Victoria (1921) was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
Condition: This book is in good condition. Hardcover. Burgundy, half leather. Cover shows some shelf wear. There is slight rubbing on corners, head/tail of spine and some creasing along hinges. Interior hinges are strong. Endpapers are hand marbled in burgundy. Spine is magnificent with hand tooled dentelles. Raised banding. Text block is pristine as are all the illustrations. Top edge gilt.
The book came from the estate of Mabel and H. Hiram Weisberg and bears their elegant ex-libris stamp.
