--ABOUT THIS ITEM--

Thomas Love Peacock was an English novelist, poet, and official of the East India Company. He was born in 1785 and is best known for his satirical novels that often critiqued the society and politics of his time. Peacock was a member of the "London Literary Society" and counted among his friends Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, and Leigh Hunt. He was a champion of individual freedom and a critic of oppressive governments and social institutions. Thomas Love Peacock was primarily known for his novels, but he also wrote poetry throughout his career. His poetry often reflected his satirical and philosophical views, and many of his poems were inspired by nature and the beauty of the English countryside. Peacock's poetry was not as widely read as his novels, but he did publish several collections of his poems, including "Poems by Thomas Love Peacock" (1830) and "Fables in Song" (1856). Some of his most famous poems include "The Four Ages of Poetry," "The Four Ages of Man," and "The Old Man's Wish." Peacock died in 1866.
