DESCRIPTION:
Butler was a significant figure in Victorian literature, challenging the societal norms and intellectual conventions of his time. His work often explored themes of family, religion, and evolution, frequently employing wit and irony to critique established institutions and beliefs.

Butler's literary significance stems from his unique voice and his willingness to subvert expectations. He is particularly remembered for his posthumously published novel, "The Way of All Flesh," which offered a scathing critique of Victorian domesticity and hypocrisy. Collectors interested in authors who pushed boundaries and offered incisive social commentary during the Victorian era would find this collection particularly compelling, as it showcases the breadth of his literary contributions and his enduring impact on English letters.
