DESCRIPTION:
This book, "The World's Speaker, Reciter and Entertainer," is a comprehensive guide to public speaking, recitation, and performance, offering a wide array of material and instructional content for various settings including home, school, church, and platform. It delves into the art of dramatic presentation through recitations, readings, plays, drills, and tableaux, providing practical tools for aspiring and seasoned performers alike. The core of its instructional methodology is rooted in the Delsarte System, a significant 19th-century method for understanding and expressing human emotion through gesture, posture, and voice.

Frances P. Hoyle, the author, compiled this extensive resource to democratize the art of performance, making it accessible for individuals of all ages and for diverse occasions. The inclusion of "Special Pose Pictures" and explicit rules for physical culture and voice training underscores the book's commitment to practical application, allowing readers to master the nuances of expressive movement and vocal delivery. Hoyle's work is a valuable historical document, reflecting the popular entertainment and educational practices of its era.

For collectors, this book is particularly interesting due to its detailed exposition of the Delsarte System, a foundational influence on modern acting techniques and movement studies. It represents a significant historical artifact in the evolution of performing arts education and popular culture, showcasing the types of programs and skills valued in public entertainment and elocution during its time. Its comprehensive nature, covering both theory and practice with a wealth of performance material, makes it a unique and insightful piece for those interested in the history of theater, public speaking, and pedagogical methods in the arts.
