DESCRIPTION:
This book, "Gemälde des Wiener Kongresses," offers a vivid portrayal of the Congress of Vienna, a pivotal event in 19th-century European history. It delves into the recollections, grand festivities, social customs, and anecdotes surrounding this assembly of European powers. The work provides a rich tapestry of the diplomatic and social life during a period that reshaped the continent's political landscape following the Napoleonic Wars.
The author, Graf de la Garde, presents this material with a new preface and numerous annotations, suggesting a scholarly yet accessible approach to the subject. While information about Graf de la Garde himself is not widely detailed in common historical records, his work here serves as an important primary or near-primary source for understanding the cultural and political atmosphere of the Congress. His editorial work enhances the original material, making it more digestible and informative for later generations.
For collectors, this book is significant as it provides an intimate look at a momentous historical event through a unique lens. Its focus on personal recollections and social observations, rather than purely political machinations, offers a colorful and human dimension to the Congress of Vienna. It appeals to those interested in diplomatic history, 19th-century European society, and the broader cultural impact of major political gatherings.
