Rev. John Watson (1850 - 1907), known by his pen name Ian Maclaren, was a Scottish author and theologian. Beside the Bonnie Brier Bush was his first published work and achieved extraordinary popularity, selling more than 700,000 copies. Also the basis for the Paramount Picture film starring Donald Crisp and Mary Glynne in 1921. The film is considered lost.
