Fairy subjects became especially popular in 19th-century British art and illustration, where artists drew on folklore, Shakespeare, fairy tales, and the natural world to create elaborate imaginary realms. The V&A’s collections preserve numerous works connected with fairy-tale and fairy imagery from this period.
