Miller ran her own publishing house specializing in children's literature, notable (at that time) for its employment of a largely female staff. The husband and wife illustrators lasted over 50 years and yielded over 120 books, many singled-out for their outstanding illustrations, including the coveted CALDECOTT MEDAL.
