CONDITION: Near fine set. Three volumes. Quarto. First trade edition. Three hardcover volumes housed in the original slipcase. The slipcase has some wear along edges and corners. The buckram and boards cover is in excellent shape with minimal rubbing/wear. The spine has some slight foxing/sunning. Hinges tight. Binding square and sturdy. Bookseller notes in pencil on VOL I prelims along with Thomas G. Bergin's inscription in Italian and English in blue ink. Thomas G. Bergin has also signed and inscribed prelims on the other two volumes as well (as shown). The stark full-page illustrations by Leonard Baskin were reproduced by Meriden Gravure Company under the supervision of Harold Hugo. The text was printed at Stamperia Valdonega in Verona Italy. The paper Antiqua was made for this edition. The drawings were reproduced by Meriden Gravure Company under the supervision of Harold Hugo. The text block is crisp and clean. Heavy volumes (20lbs).
