Thomas Moore published the biography of Lord Byron his friend in London in 1829. This edition published in 1840 in Philadelphia is a first edition by publisher Thomas Wardle and differs from the original London printing. This edition has been rebound in half leather and canvas boards. The spine from the original binding has been preserved on the rear pastedown. This edition appears to be uncommon and is wonderfully illustrated with engravings protected by tissue guards.
CONDITION: This set is in good condition. Leather. These books have been rebound in half leather and canvas boards. The spine from the original binding has been affixed to the rear pastedown. The boards are worn along edges and corners with some loss on the head of the spine. The hinges are tight. The binding is square. Both books have an elegant ex-libris book stamp on the front pastedown. Volume I is missing the frontispiece. The text block of both volumes is crisp and clean with slight foxing. There are a couple of pages with penciled-in margin notes. This set contains beautiful engravings. Handsome copies of this hard to find book.
