The Prince and the Pauper is a novel by American author Mark Twain. It was first published in 1881 in Canada, before its 1882 publication in the United States. The novel represents Twain's first attempt at historical fiction. Set in 1547, it tells the story of two young boys who are identical in appearance: Tom Canty, a pauper who lives with his abusive father in Offal Court off Pudding Lane in London, and Prince Edward, son of King Henry VIII.

CONDITION: This book is in fair condition. Hardcover. Original green pictorial decorative cloth with gilt lettering. An excellent example of the book in the same format and design as the first edition. Cover has some rubbing along edges and corners as well as head/tail of spine which is frayed. Interior hinges cracked. Front cover board is detached from binding. Front endpaper loose. Text block is crisp and clean as are all illustrations. Some toning along edges.

Page 123 - Has a rip, no portion of page missing.
Page 133 - Small tear along edge and bottom
page 273 - Bottom margin of is torn, missing portion doesn't affect copy
