One of Lytton's sympathetic studies of a murderer executed in 1759. Eugene Aram was a lexicographer & academic who was eventually found guilty of the murder of a friend over property. Lytton used the case as the basis for a story of a romantic figure torn between violence and visionary ideals.

Condition: This book is in good condition. Leather. Half brown leather over marbled boards. Boards are worn along edges and corners. Marbled boards are scuffed. Spine has beautiful hand-tooled dentelles. Five raised bands. Binding square, hinges tight. Original brown endpapers. Frontispiece engraving with tissue guard in great shape. Text block is crisp and clean.
